This month my team is living at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in a tiny little town, 24 hours away from the rest of the squad. The pictures couldn’t do this precious village justice, but if you imagine a cute & christmasy, straight from a hallmark movie, ski town minus the snow, that’s where I’m living!!

My squad was briefed before coming here that most of the country is buddhist and that there have been riots in some major cities. Every city I’ve seen here in asia is filled with historic wats, or temples, and other religious offerings. I say all this because we weren’t expecting to stumble across this little piece of heaven. We weren’t expecting to be welcomed into a village that the Lord and His kingdom bringers already inhabit.

Every time I look out the window across the valley, the Lord just brings my attention to another cross. Like the white one that sits on the highest hill. Like the silver ones sitting on top of every church. Like the hidden ones in the patterns of the rice terraces. Our Savior already has dominion over this village; He’s just inviting us into His dwelling place.

My ministry this month doesn’t start until monday, but we are teaching english at an international school! Our ministry hosts have been showing us around and taking us to try traditional Burmese food (SO spicy but delicious)!!!

I just wanted to give you all a little update and say that I made it to Myanmar without any car sickness!! Praise Jesus!!! That might have to do with the fact that I took too much dramamine and benadryl, but I know the Lord had His hand over our loooong travel days. He was still moving and speaking when I wasn’t even sure what country I was in. Thank you all so much for your continued prayers(: I’m so blessed and encouraged by all of you!!

all my love, kate

  1. Hi Kate,
So relieved you are safely in place in Myanmar. The Village sounds beautiful. The foothills of the Himalayan Mtns are breathtaking. You will be a wonderful teacher. Good luck to you and the team.. God is using your skills very well…spreading His Love as you introduce your language to children. You are learning so much about their culture that will remain with you always.
    Stay safe.

  6. I have read with awe all of your posts. You are a gifted writer. You should definitely print off all of your posts. Maybe even compile them into a book. If you have not yet read Kisses from Katie, I highly recommend it to you. Your enthusiasm for what you are experiencing reminds me of her book. I pray that you will have a Merry Christmas and that God continues to bless you as you serve Him.

  8. I have been so blessed by your updates, Kate, and stand in awe of all that God is doing in and through you and the others. It has been eye opening to hear and see other parts of the world through your eyes and to KNOW that the same God loves and cares for them just as He does for us. The way you communicate is so beautiful and makes me feel like I am there with you. Enjoy your piece of heaven knowing that our good, good Father gave this precious gift to you and your team!
