sunset at our base in Nsoko, Swaziland!

funny story… on our way to Swaziland from the airport, the tire on our trailer fell off as we were driving down the road! A group of us went to look for it while the guys helped repair the tire enough to drive it empty. We ended up on the side of the road for six hours in South Africa while waited! good times good times (:

My team and I after church on Sunday! Swazi church usually lasts anywhere from 2-4 hours.

This is a photo I snapped on our way to ministry. We don’t always walk with the kids, but when they have half days at school or holidays we usually end up walking to the care point about the same time! It melts my heart every time they grab for my hand.

This is what a typical quiet time at our base looks like! Shoutout to Kate Cluskey for painting my bible for me(:

This is what my quiet time looked like at debrief! Definitely worth waking up for the sunrise over the lake(:

Gas stations here are a lot different than in America. This is when our team was on our way to Swazi and we stopped at a South African gas station for breakfast – complete with a tourist store, a few restaurants, a coffee shop, and a balcony off the back to look at all the animals. {Water buffalo, rhinos, antelopes, zebras, & more!}

This is a prayer wall I made for our room. There are fifteen girls total that are in my room from two different teams.

The sunrises & sunsets are absolutely amazing here!

Lauren & I at ministry!

Carissa & I waiting at the Kumbi (taxi) stop!

Right after playing what are the odds with my team & getting an egg cracked on my head…

Right after our Kumbi ran out of gas & the driver goes, “Now you walk”

There isn’t much besides a gas station where we live in Swazi, so our team decided to shotgun red bulls for fun one night!

My first time evangelizing!! These are some girls from a different squad that we hung out with fir a couple days for some rest & teachings by each other about evangelism, worship, intercession, hospitality, & story telling.

Early morning selfies while waiting for the sun to rise!

  1. Kate, you look so happy! It seems as if this choice you made was definitely right for you. I LOVE the picture updates (and your blog too). Please don’t stop showing us more about this incredible journey.

  2. Kate,
Love all of your pictures and to see the happiness in your face! Glad you have made good friends – enjoy all that is ahead of you.

  3. Love your pictures and what appears to be your fantastic attitude, as always. your stories about running out of gas tires and limited food selection remind me of my travels in Africa many years ago. They did not have Red Bull Back then. Enjoy the journey!

  4. Kate,
I loved seeing the pictures, gives me some idea of the countryside. It looks like you have a good team of co-workers, and you all look happy.
My prayers are with you everyday.
    Warmly,
    Nancy

  5. I love it, the pictures are fantastic but the descriptions really make it perfect! We love hearing all about your journey.
I’m always full of questions (ask Cauy) so why do y’all get up so early? Is it a choice to get up and watch the sunrise, it that the time set aside for quiet time or can you not sleep?
Also I love how your driver makes you walk on what looked like the coldest day! Y’all were really bundled up.

  6. I’m writing a blog called 5 am wake up call soon! Your questions are all gonna be answered in it(:

  7. Katie..I love the pictures… And I love your smile! My prayers continue for you every day??

  8. You are radiant! You can feel the joy and love for the Lord emanating from you! Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty in your posts and for sharing the beautiful photos. May God continue to speak to you and through you!
